The organisation, which has been operating for over seven years, has been trying to gain charitable status for 16 months, following a decision by its membership – who voted for the change.
Nick Gardham, CEO of Community Organisers, described becoming a charity as “absolutely brilliant”, continuing: “This is a huge achievement for our organisation; we’ve reached an important milestone in our journey that will not only enable us to access greater support and resource, but will also provide Community Organisers with additional monitoring, information, and advice from the charity commission.”
“We couldn’t have got this far without the support of our amazing members and, to say thank you, we will be holding a special celebration at our National Community Organisers’ Meet-up – ‘CO19 – Developing Skills and Practice’ – which takes place at the Yarnfield Park Conference Centre in Staffordshire on 25thand 26thJune.”
The new created charity – registered number: 1183487 – is looking to its membership for two additional trustees; to join the Community Organisers’ board at the organisation’s AGM, which will also take place as part of the CO19 Meet-up.
Trustees are elected for a period of two years and members can put themselves forward as a candidate for election by submitting a 300-word ‘personal statement’ or two-minute video on why they would like to be a Trustee.
