The Role of Community Organising in Housing and Regeneration

This Guest Lecture focuses on the role of community organising in housing and regeneration.

In the context of Labour’s commitment to build 1.5 million more houses we will discuss why it’s important for communities to be involved in decisions relating to housing and regeneration.

We will explore how this could be done by outlining the work we did for Nationwide in Oakfield, Swindon where Community Organisers were recruited to engage with the community about a potential development.

We will also identify why a community organising approach could be integral for Housing Associations and we will hear from Marta Rios, Community Investment and Partnerships Manager for Sovereign Network Group, who we are working with, to outline why they are using a community organising approach with their Housing Association residents.

We will finish the session with a wider discussion on all things related to community and housing.
